Alarm.com Image Sensor RF Signal Strength & Troubleshooting
About RF Signal Strength
The Alarm.com Image Sensor communicates via RF with its daughterboard. For reliable operation:
- Minimum: 30% signal strength
- Recommended: 40%+ signal strength
Applies to: Image Sensor version 2 & 2.2 models (ADC-IS-200, ADC-IS-221).
Verify RF Signal Strength
Partner Portal
- Log into the Partner Portal.
- Open the customer account → Equipment → Image Sensors.
- View the Signal Strength column (average of last 5 readings).
- Click Request Latest Info for updated data.
- For a real-time reading: Image Sensor Signal Strength History → Request Signal Strength from System.
Real-time readings may take a few minutes but are useful when choosing mounting locations.
MobileTech App
- Log into the MobileTech app → open customer account.
- Go to Equipment → Image Sensors.
- Expand the sensor to see Signaling.
- Tap Request Latest Info or View/Request Signal Strength → Request Signal Strength from System.
IQ Panel 2
- On the panel: Settings → Advanced Settings (installer code).
- System Tests → Image Sensor Config → View.
- Check Signal Strength (average of last 5 readings).
Standard Troubleshooting
Range
Open-air range is ~400 ft. Indoors, walls, furniture, and obstructions reduce this range. Check for metallic objects or electronics near the sensor that could interfere with RF communication.
Power
Use high-quality Lithium batteries for best performance. They maximize sensor life and help maintain consistent RF communication.
