Manage Z-Wave Devices on a Qolsys IQ Panel 2
Overview
The Z-Wave controller resides inside the Qolsys IQ Panel 2. If you replace the panel, you must exclude and re-include existing Z-Wave devices. Local Z-Wave control is available by default—no special toggle is required on the panel.
Remote control via Alarm.com: The customer account must include automation device types in its service package. Contact True Protection if the plan needs updating.
Compatibility: See device lists from Alarm.com hardware and Qolsys compatible devices. Place devices in their final locations before inclusion for best routing.
Adjust the Number of Allowed Z-Wave Devices (Panel)
- Swipe down → Settings → Advanced Settings (installer code).
- Installation → Devices → Z-Wave Devices → Z-Wave Settings.
- Edit the device limit as needed.
Enroll Z-Wave Devices
- Place devices in final locations first to build optimal routes.
- Add closest devices to the panel first, then work outward.
- Verify each inclusion before moving to the next.
- After adding all devices, run a Network Rediscovery (below).
Partner Portal (FW 1.6.1+ required for Remote Add/Delete)
- Equipment → Z-Wave Devices → Add a Z-Wave Device.
- Wait for Checking for new devices on the network, then trigger each device.
- Devices appear within ~30 seconds; click Exit when finished.
- New devices populate across Customer Website/app and MobileTech within ~5 minutes. If not, request an updated equipment list.
MobileTech App (FW 1.6.1+)
- Equipment → Z-Wave Devices → expand Z-Wave Actions → Add Z-Wave Devices.
- Wait for the network check message, then trigger devices to include.
- Tap Exit when done; sync allows ~5 minutes for devices to appear.
At the Panel
- Swipe down → Settings → Advanced Settings (installer code).
- Installation → Devices → Z-Wave Devices → Add Device → Include.
- Trigger the device; the panel beeps on success.
- Re-enter Include for each additional device.
Best practices: After large additions (locks, thermostats, controllers), run Network Rediscovery and avoid using Z-Wave until it completes.
Remove Z-Wave Devices (Exclude)
Partner Portal (FW 1.6.1+)
- Equipment → Z-Wave Devices → Delete a Z-Wave Device.
- When the network check message appears, trigger devices to delete.
- Unknown devices listed were not joined but had old network data cleared.
MobileTech App (FW 1.6.1+)
- Equipment → Z-Wave Devices → Z-Wave Actions → Delete Z-Wave Devices.
- Trigger devices to exclude.
At the Panel
- Swipe down → Settings → Advanced Settings (installer code).
- Installation → Devices → Z-Wave Devices → Clear Device (exclusion mode).
- Trigger the device to remove it. Re-enter Clear Device for each additional one.
Remove Failed Devices
- Partner Portal (IQ2 FW 2.5.0+): Equipment → Z-Wave Devices → expand device → Device Commands → Remove Failed Device → refresh after 2–3 minutes.
- Panel: Z-Wave Devices → Delete Failed Device → select items → Delete.
Perform a Network Rediscovery
Rediscovery rebuilds routes and alternates, improving reliability. Networks with many nodes can take up to 30 minutes. Avoid using Z-Wave during the process.
Partner Portal
- Equipment → Z-Wave Devices → under Troubleshooting, click Rediscover Network.
- Check Event History for link-quality requests following the command.
MobileTech App
- Equipment → Z-Wave Devices → Z-Wave Actions → Rediscover Network.
- Verify progress via Event History.
At the Panel
- Swipe down → Settings → Advanced Settings (installer code).
- System Tests → Z-Wave Tests → Rediscover Network.
Troubleshooting Tips
- If a device won’t include, exclude it first (even if brand-new—some ship with prior network info).
- Enroll locks/thermostats near the panel first, then move and rediscover.
- If devices don’t appear in Alarm.com after 5 minutes, request an updated Z-Wave equipment list from Partner Portal/MobileTech.
- As a last resort, you can Remove All Z-Wave Devices (resets the panel’s Z-Wave network info) and rebuild the network.
