2GIG GoControl – Install Cellular Module & Run Cell Phone Test
Pre-Install Recommendation
Test in your office or lab at least 24 hours before heading to the site. This lets the SIM register on the carrier network and helps rule out module/SIM issues before you’re on-site.
A successful office test confirms the SIM has registered at least once, reducing first-time activation failures in the field.
Install the Cellular Module
- Power down: Disconnect battery and AC. Remove the back cover.
- Prepare the module: This is ordered separately; verify it’s the correct model for your panel/carrier.
- Plug in & secure: Seat the module firmly into the top socket and fasten with the included screws.
- Attach the antenna: Connect to the module. Mount the antenna outside the panel—ideally hanging inside the wall cavity. If the wall is not hollow, place the antenna between panel and wall.
- Restore power: Reconnect the battery, then AC. Reinstall the back cover and plug in. Allow up to 1 minute for initialization.
Caution: Don’t power up until the module and antenna are connected securely.
Run the Cell Phone Test
Method A (Installer Code)
- Tap the logo (bottom-right).
- Enter installer code (default
1561
). - Tap Radio Status → Cell Phone Test.
- Wait up to 2 minutes for “The cell phone is working correctly. The test completed successfully.” → tap OK.
Method B (Master or Installer Code)
- From Home: Security → Menu → Toolbox.
- Enter master or installer code.
- Scroll to Toolbox (3 of 3) → Cell Phone Test.
- Enter code again; wait for the success message and tap OK.
If the test succeeds, Alarm.com communication is active and interactive services should function normally.
Note: The first test may fail while the SIM registers for the first time; try the test a couple of times.
If the Cell Phone Test Fails
- Power cycle: Remove all power (including battery) for 2 minutes; restore power and retest.
- Improve signal: Move the panel closer to a window or take it outdoors temporarily; retest.
- Contact support with IMEI: Provide the cellular module’s IMEI if failures persist.
Find the IMEI / Serial
- Via keypad: Tap logo → installer code → Radio Status → view Serial Number (Alarm.com ID).
- On module: Read the label marked IMEI or ADC on the cellular module hardware.
If another panel on-site is communicating successfully, you can often rule out local carrier coverage as the issue.
