How many digits can be in a system user code on the Qolsys IQ Panel 2?

The Qolsys IQ Panel 2 on firmware version 2.3.0+ can be set to have either 4-digit or 6-digit user codes.

On firmware versions below 2.3.0, the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 can only have 4-digit user codes.

Enable/disable 6 digit user codes

The number of digits in a user code can be enabled or disabled using the Partner Portal or MobileTech app.

Considerations
  • All user codes on a system must be the same length.
    • If a panel is updated from 4-digit to 6-digit user codes in programming, all current user codes add 00 at the end of each code. (e.g., 1234 changes to 123400).
    • If a panel is updated from 6-digit to 4-digit user codes in programming, all current user codes remove the last two digits (e.g., 123456 changes to 1234).
  • Both 4-digit and 6-digit user codes are compatible with being updated using Alarm.com.
To enable/disable 6 digit user codes using the Partner Portal:
  1. Log into the Partner Portal.
  2. Find the customer account.
  3. Click Remote Toolkit
  4. In the Command Catalog, click to expand User Codes
  5. Click 6 Digit User Codes
  6. Using the New value dropdown menu, select either:
    • Enable to use 6-digit user codes. This adds 00 at the end of each 4-digit code currently on the system.
    • Disable to use 4-digit user codes. The last two digits are removed from each 6-digit code currently on the system.
  7. Click Change to send the updates to the system.

Qolsys IQ Panel 2: Enable 4 or 6 Digit User Codes

On firmware version 2.3.0+, the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 allows user codes to be either 4 or 6 digits long. On earlier firmware, only 4-digit codes are supported. Adjusting the length can be done remotely using the Partner Portal or MobileTech app.

Key Considerations

  • All user codes on a system must be the same length.
  • When switching from 4 → 6 digits, each existing code adds 00 (e.g., 1234 → 123400).
  • When switching from 6 → 4 digits, the last two digits are removed (e.g., 123456 → 1234).
  • Both 4-digit and 6-digit codes can still be updated through Alarm.com.

Enable/Disable 6 Digit User Codes

Using the Partner Portal

  1. Log into the Partner Portal and open the customer account.
  2. Click Remote Toolkit.
  3. In Command Catalog, expand User Codes.
  4. Select 6 Digit User Codes.
  5. From New Value, choose:
    • Enable – system switches to 6-digit codes (adds 00 to each current code).
    • Disable – system switches to 4-digit codes (removes last two digits).
  6. Click Change to apply.

Using the MobileTech App

  1. Log into MobileTech and find the customer account.
  2. Tap Remote Toolkit → Command Catalog.
  3. Expand User Codes and tap 6 Digit User Codes.
  4. Select Enable or Disable as desired.
  5. Tap Change to send the update to the panel.

Why Adjust Code Length?

Choosing 6-digit codes increases system security by reducing the chance of guesswork. However, 4-digit codes remain easier to remember. Consider the customer’s preference and environment when configuring.
