Troubleshooting Lutron Controller Internet Connection Issues
If you are unable to connect a Lutron controller to the internet, use the troubleshooting information below to restore connectivity.
Supported Lutron Controllers
- RadioRa2 Main Repeater
- HomeWorks QS Processor
- Caseta Wireless
Initial Considerations
- Verify the network setup and confirm which device the main repeater or smart bridge is plugged into.
- If it’s a managed system, consult with the network professional managing the network to confirm all settings meet Lutron requirements.
- If connected to a device other than the main router (e.g., an Ethernet switch), try connecting directly to the router to test for full connection.
- If only a local connection or no connection is available, contact Lutron support or a networking professional to verify correct network settings.
RadioRa2 and HomeWorks QS Considerations
Check the following settings in the Lutron programming software under Advanced Settings:
- Ensure Restrict Communications with Processor to Local LAN Only is disabled.
- Ensure Disable Alarm.com Integration is not checked.
New vs. Pre-existing Lutron Setup
For New Installations:
- Have a network professional verify that all network requirements are configured (e.g., subnet, subnet mask, default gateway, DNS settings).
- Contact Lutron for official networking requirements and configuration steps.
For Existing Systems:
- If the system previously worked, determine what has changed — new router, network credentials, or firewall settings.
- If commands are failing in the Lutron app, contact Lutron or a networking professional to review connectivity parameters.
Testing Remote Access
Test whether remote commands work through the Lutron app when the phone is connected via mobile data (not Wi-Fi). Lutron devices can operate locally without full internet access, but a full connection is required for Alarm.com integration.
