Unable to connect Lutron controller to the internet

If unable to connect a Lutron controller to the internet, consider the following questions and troubleshooting information.

Supported Lutron controllers

The following Lutron controllers are supported:

  • RadioRa2 Main Repeater
  • HomeWorksQS Processer
  • Caseta Wireless

Initial considerations

If a customer is unable to connect their Lutron controller to the internet, there are a few things to consider.

  1. Verify the network setup and the device that the main repeater/smart bridge is plugged into. If it’s a managed system, it is recommended to work with the network professional that manages the network to verify it is set up as expected for the network requirements.
  2. If the Lutron controller is connected to a piece of network equipment other than the main router (e.g., an Ethernet switch), try connecting the main repeater/smart bridge directly into the router to see if that allows for full connection and not local connection only.
  3. If a local connection (or no connection) is present, it is recommended to contact Lutron or a networking professional to verify the network information is set up properly.

Considerations for Radio RA2 and HomeWorks QS

Verify in the Advanced Settings of the Lutron programming software that Restrict Communications with Processor to Local LAN Only is disabled and Disable Alarm.com Integration is not checked.

Is this a new Lutron installation or a pre-existing Lutron setup that is working through a Lutron app?

If it is new, have a network professional properly verified all the network requirements within the Lutron device (e.g., subnet and subnet mask, default gateway, preferred DNS, etc.). It may be necessary to contact Lutron for all requirements.

If it is a pre-existing system, and commands are not working from the Lutron app, look for changes from when it was last working (e.g., a new router, network information, security settings, etc.). Contact Lutron or a network professional for parameters and requirements.

Do remote commands work on the Lutron app when not connected to the same local network (i.e., when the phone is connected to data)?

Lutron devices can work on a local network, but the device needs a full connection to reach Alarm.com.
