Thermostat or Remote Temperature Sensor Showing N/A – Troubleshooting Steps
If your thermostat or Remote Temperature Sensor (RTS) is displaying N/A instead of a temperature, it usually means the device has not yet reported temperature data to Alarm.com after installation.
When a Thermostat Displays “N/A”
This issue commonly occurs immediately after installation when the thermostat has not yet communicated with the Z-Wave network.
To Resolve the Behavior:
- Turn the thermostat on.
- Adjust the temperature setting by a few degrees.
- Wait a few moments—temperature data should begin reporting shortly after the manual change.
- If the thermostat still shows N/A after a few minutes, remove and re-enroll it in the Z-Wave network.
When a Remote Temperature Sensor (RTS) Displays “N/A”
An RTS can also display N/A for the same reason—lack of temperature reporting after initial setup.
To Resolve the Behavior:
- Manually adjust the temperature reading by changing the environment near the RTS by one degree (e.g., briefly warm or cool the area).
- Wait a few minutes to allow the RTS to report its updated temperature.
- If the issue persists, press the button on the side of the RTS to prompt communication.
Tip: After resolving the issue, verify that your Z-Wave network communication is stable. Poor communication can delay or prevent temperature updates. For help strengthening your connection, see Repairing the Z-Wave Network.
