Alarm.com supports both the Aeotec ZW120 and Jasco ZW3605 Z-Wave contact sensors.

Note: Z-Wave contact sensors are only compatible with non-security Z-Wave controllers (e.g., Alarm.com Hub, etc.).

Installation

Step 1: Install the sensor

Install the door/window sensor following the instructions provided in its box. To ensure best performance:

  • Affix indoors and away from sources of moisture.
  • Place within 90 feet of another Z-Wave repeating device or the Hub.
  • It is recommended to install the sensor on the top opening side of the door. The sensor has an optimal signal when its height/longest side is mounted vertically.
  • Dots should line up as close as possible and must be no more than 1 centimeters apart.
  • It is recommended to use mounting screws when possible. If using mounting tape, adhesion is best if the contact points are roughened with sandpaper or reinforced with a strong adhesive glue.
Step 2: Enroll sensor to the network
  1. On the sensor, remove the plastic spacing tab to connect the batteries.
  2. Put the Hub in enrollment mode by pressing the  button once. The status light will start flashing green slowly and the Hub will beep once.
  3. Press the Z-Wave button on the sensor once. If it has been successfully added to your network, the Hub will beep and the LED light on the front of the sensor will be solid for several seconds.

Note: If the sensor goes into malfunction a day after the install, this may indicate the communication interval was not successfully set. To troubleshoot, perform a network rediscovery, then press the Z-Wave button on the sensor.

If enrollment is unsuccessful, follow the steps to unenroll under Advanced functions below, and then try enrolling again.

Rules and Alerts configuration

Advanced functions

Unenroll sensor from the network
  1. Put the Hub in unenrollment mode by pressing and holding the  button until the status light flashes orange slowly and the Hub beeps twice.
  2. Press the Z-Wave button on the sensor. If it has been successfully unenrolled, the Hub will beep once and its LED light will turn a solid orange color.
    • If successfully deleted, the Aeotec contact sensor’s LED light will blink rapidly for 8 seconds, then slowly for 3 seconds.
    • If successfully deleted, the Jasco contact sensor's LED light will blink five times when complete.
Battery replacement

The average battery life of the sensor is 3 years from installation. To replace the batteries on a sensor:

  1. Remove the largest part of the sensor from its mounting plate by pressing down on the latch button and pulling the sensor away from its mounting plate.
  2. Remove and replace the existing AAA batteries ensuring the positive and negative sides of each battery are placed correctly.
  3. Return the sensor to its mounting plate. To do this, align the with the sensor's hitch hole, and push the top of the sensor into the mounting plate until the two parts click firmly together.
Factory reset

To factory reset the Aeotec contact sensor, hold the button on it for about 20 seconds. The LED light should go solid for 2 seconds when complete.

To factory reset the Jasco contact sensor, quickly press the button on it ten times in 6 seconds. The LED light should go solid for 2 seconds, then it will rapidly flash three times when complete.
