How to Remove Z-Wave Devices from a Controller Network

To remove a node from the controller’s Z-Wave network, the device must be deleted. This process also clears existing network settings when transferring a device to a new Z-Wave network.

Typically, the same trigger used to enroll a Z-Wave device is used to delete it. Place the panel in Delete Mode, then trigger the device. The system should remove it from Alarm.com within twenty seconds. If it fails, move the device closer to the panel and retry.

For device-specific setup instructions (panels, locks, thermostats, and lighting), visit True Protection’s Home Automation page for Z-Wave integration resources.

Remove Devices Locally from the Panel

If remote removal fails, trigger Delete Mode locally on the panel (if supported). The process varies depending on the panel model. Consult the Z-Wave guides under your specific control panel in the Security System Installations section for reference.

Troubleshooting Z-Wave Device Deletion

  • Ensure the device is fully powered, either via AC or fresh batteries.
  • Keep the device within range of the panel or a Z-Wave repeater (typically an AC-powered Z-Wave device like a smart plug or light).
  • Older Z-Wave firmware may not support Network-Wide Exclusion, requiring the device to be within 6 feet of the panel.
  • Power cycle both the device and panel, then retry deletion.

If the device is still not deleting, see the Remove an Offline Z-Wave Device guide or use the Remove All Z-Wave Devices feature to reset the entire Z-Wave network.
