Restore a Qolsys IQ Panel to a Qolsys IQ Panel 2
print icon

It is possible to back up sensor programming and user codes from a Qolsys IQ panel and restore those settings to a Qolsys IQ Panel 2. Once a Qolsys IQ panel is backed up on the Partner Portal, this can be applied to the Qolsys IQ Panel 2.

Important considerations

  • This page outlines the procedure for restoring between Qolsys IQ Panel and Qolsys IQ Panel 2. If a swap is being performed between the same panel type (e.g., IQ Panel 2 to IQ Panel 2), follow Swapping the panel and the module.
  • Panel programming settings are not able to be applied from a Qolsys IQ panel to a Qolsys IQ Panel 2. Only user codes and sensors can be restored from a Qolsys IQ panel to a Qolsys IQ Panel 2.
  • Though the Qolsys IQ Panel and DSC Touch are similar, a DSC Touch backup cannot be restored with a Qolsys IQ Panel or IQ Panel 2.
  • Z-Wave devices do not back up, so swapping the panel requires the deletion and relearning of existing Z-Wave devices.
  • Any Image Sensors enrolled to the Qolsys IQ will need to be deleted from the panel before the backup/restore process, then re-enrolled after the process is complete.

To perform the backup for a Qolsys IQ to a Qolsys IQ Panel 2:

Backup the panel
  1. Verify the Partner Portal has an up-to-date backup with the current information. For more information on backing up the panel, see  Backup a customer's panel, sensors, and settings.
Caution: Only perform a backup if the customer's previous panel is still functioning. If the previous panel is not functioning, Alarm.com periodically saves the customer's panel and sensor settings as a backup in the event of a panel failure so there may already be a backup.
  2. If there is a successful backup of the old panel, power down the old Qolsys IQ panel. The Qolsys IQ Panel 2 should also be powered down at this time.

Apply backup settings

While both panels are powered down, apply settings using the Partner Portal or MobileTech app.

To apply backup settings using the Partner Portal:
  1. Log into the Partner Portal.
  2. Find the customer account.
  3. Click Remote Toolkit.
  4. In the Command Catalog, click to expand General
  5. Click Swap Panel.
  6. Click to select Sensor List and User Codes
Caution: Do not select Panel Settings if swapping between panel models, since panel programming settings are not able to be applied between a Qolsys IQ Panel and Qolsys IQ Panel 2.
  7. Click Apply.

To apply backup settings using the MobileTech app:
  1. Log into MobileTech.
  2. Find the customer account.

Caution: Do not select Panel Settings if swapping between panel models, since panel programming settings are not able to be applied between a Qolsys IQ Panel and Qolsys IQ Panel 2.
  8. Tap Apply.

Swap the module

After the backup settings have been applied, swap the module using the Partner Portal or MobileTech app. For more information about swapping the module, see Swap a module for a customer account.

  4. In the New Serial Number field, enter the 15 digits of the serial number on the new module.
Caution: Do not select the Restore Settings checkbox if swapping between panel models, as this can cause unexpected behavior to occur and the backup may be lost.
  5. Click Submit.

To swap the module using the MobileTech app:
  1. Log into the MobileTech app.
  2. Find the customer account.
  3. Tap Quick Actions.
