Alarm.com Smarter Business Temperature Monitoring (SBTM)
Alarm.com SBTM provides affordable, 24×7 monitoring and real-time alerts for temperature-critical businesses (restaurants, groceries, pharmacies, and more). Fully integrated with Alarm.com, SBTM helps prevent unsafe conditions and costly equipment failures by notifying managers as soon as issues arise.
Important: This panel does not support central station temperature forwarding alongside SBTM. PG9905 sensors used with SBTM do not forward temperature alerts to a central station because the required sensor group on this panel does not support it.
Requirements
Category | Requirement |
---|---|
Service package | Smarter Business Temperature Monitoring add-on to Commercial Plus |
Panel | Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus on firmware 2.4.2+ |
Hardware | DSC Wireless PowerG Temperature Sensors (PG9905) |
Enroll PG9905 Temperature Sensors
Panel (Auto Learn recommended)
- IQ Panel 2 Plus → Settings → Advanced Settings (installer) → Installation → Devices → Security Sensors → Auto Learn Sensor.
- Put the PG9905 into pairing mode: open the sensor (requires screwdriver) and press/hold the button next to the spring for ~2s until the LED flashes red.
- The panel discovers and auto-adds the sensor. Complete the on-screen prompts to finish installation.
Partner Portal
- Equipment → Sensors → Add A Sensor.
- RF Type: PowerG (set this first).
- Serial Number: enter the number starting with 250 (no hyphens), e.g.,
2505655
. - Sensor Name: e.g., Freezer Sensor 1.
- Partition: choose partition (default 1) if using multiple partitions.
- Group: 51 (required for SBTM).
- Sensor Type: Temperature.
- Sensor ID: enter an unused ID, then Add Sensor.
MobileTech app
- Equipment → Add Devices → Sensor.
- RF Type: PowerG (set this first).
- Serial Number: number begins with 250 (no hyphens).
- Sensor Name, Partition (if needed), Group 51, Sensor Type = Temperature, unique Sensor ID → Add Sensor.
After enrollment: Tamper each sensor once to confirm connectivity (open/close shell so the internal spring releases/presses). The sensor should flash green 3 times on successful install.
Verify Sensors in Alarm.com
- In Partner Portal/MobileTech: open the equipment page and Request Updated Equipment List, wait ~1 minute, then refresh.
- On the Customer Website/app: a Temperature Monitoring card shows a row per sensor. If a sensor shows N/A, tap the card’s refresh; if needed, tamper the sensor again.
Troubleshooting
Sensor does not display in Alarm.com
- Confirm the sensor was actually enrolled to the panel.
- Verify Group 51 (non-reporting) and Sensor Type = Temperature.
- Remove/reinsert the battery to reset, then try enrollment again (consider switching enrollment method).
Sensor shows temperature as N/A
- Tamper the sensor (open so the spring expands, then close). It should flash green 3×.
- If no green flashes, reset/re-enroll the sensor.
- Request an updated equipment list in Partner Portal/MobileTech and refresh.
Notes & Best Practices
- Central station forwarding: Not supported with SBTM on this panel (PG9905 in Group 51).
- Connectivity: Keep panel online via Wi-Fi + cellular for reliable sensor updates. (Connect to Wi-Fi)
- After changes: Run a communication test to confirm signaling. (Send a Communication Test)
- Programming: For panel settings and firmware guidance, see Panel Programming (IQ Panel 2).
