print icon

Required Items for Installation:

  • LiftMaster or Chamberlain Wi-Fi Enabled Garage Door Opener (i.e., motor)
    • Caution: The Chamberlain LW5000EV, despite having MyQ and Wi-Fi printed on it, still requires the use of a MyQ Internet Gateway or MyQ Smart Garage Hub for remote control.
    • For more information regarding compatibility, see Garage door compatibility.
  • Smartphone, tablet, or laptop
  • Wi-Fi network name and password for the property’s Wi-Fi network
  • 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal in the garage

Test the Wi-Fi signal strength

  1. Verify the mobile device is connected to the customer's Wi-Fi network.
  2. Hold the mobile device in the place where the Garage Door Opener will be installed, and check the Wi-Fi signal strength.

Mount the Wi-Fi Garage Door Opener

Mount the Wi-Fi Garage Door Opener according to the instructions packaged with the garage door opener.

Connect the Wi-Fi Garage Door Opener to the Wi-Fi Network

Note: To see if other Wi-Fi enrollment options exist, consult the motor's installation guide.

  1. Put the garage door opener into Wi-Fi Setup mode by pressing and releasing the yellow Learn button on the garage door opener (i.e., motor) two-three times. The garage door opener beeps once, and a blue light flashes. You have 20 minutes to complete the connection process.

Note: When installing a gate operator, press the Learn button twice on the primary operator (the operator will beep as it enters learn mode). The LiftMaster Internet Gateway will pair to the operator if it is within range and the operator will beep if programming is successful. For more information about compatible LiftMaster gate operators, see Can the LiftMaster MyQ solution control gate operators?.

  2. On a mobile device or laptop, connect to the Wi-Fi Network with the “MyQ-“ prefix.
  3. Launch the web browser on that device and go to setup.myqdevice.com. Follow the on-screen prompts to connect the garage door opener to the property’s Wi-Fi network. It may be necessary to select Erase Wi-Fi on the MyQ device setup site before being able to scan for a new network. When instructed to download the MyQ app, proceed to the next section of instructions. Do not register the device using the MyQ app.

Required service package

The Garage Door & Gate Control and LiftMaster Integration add-ons must be included in the customer's service package for their system. For more information about updating the service package, see Update the service package on a customer account

Register the Wi-Fi Garage Door Opener

Once the service package add-ons are included, the Wi-Fi Garage Door Opener can be registered using the Alarm.com Partner Portal, MobileTech app, or using the Customer Website.

Note: It is not possible to register the Wi-Fi Garage Door Opener with Alarm.com if it is already registered with MyQ/LiftMaster. It is required to delete the Garage Door Opener from a MyQ account before attempting to register it to Alarm.com.

To register the gateway using the Customer Website:

Important: If a LiftMaster MyQ Smart Gateway is already installed on the account, another one cannot be added through the Customer Website until the existing one is deleted. If the gateway is in malfunction, the trouble condition must be resolved before it can be deleted and re-added for safety purposes.

  1. Log into the Customer Website.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Click Manage Devices.
  4. Click Add Device.
  5. Click Garage Door.
  6. Select the desired LiftMaster device.

Important: If the option does not display, verify that the LiftMaster integration add-on has been added to the customer’s service package.

  7. Click Next.
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the device installation.

Note: This serial number is separate from the Product S/N. Look for the logo to find the correct serial number.

  9. The page displays a pinwheel, indicating that the device is being added. When finished, it redirects to the Garage page, where the new devices are listed. See Troubleshooting if the device fails to register.

Troubleshooting

  1. If the device has already been registered with a MyQ or Alarm.com, make sure to delete the device from the LiftMaster MyQ website or the Equipment page of the Partner Portal.
  2. If the garage door opener cannot enter Wi-Fi Learn Mode, go through a full open and close cycle after the initial installation.
  3. If there is no Wi-Fi signal in the garage:
    1. On setup.myqdevice.com, select Erase Wi-Fi before scanning for the network. Wi-Fi settings can also be erased by pressing and holding the black adjustment button until three beeps are heard (approximately six seconds).
    2. Move the wireless router closer to the garage.
    3. Purchase a Wi-Fi Range Extender.
    4. Install a MyQ Internet Gateway (828LM) to communicate with the garage door opener from the router.
  4. LiftMaster has advised that some LED light bulbs can interfere with a garage door opener's communication. For more information, refer to LiftMaster's Which Light Bulbs can be Used in my Garage Door Opener?.
  5. If attempting to install the garage door opener using an iOS device, verify that Wi-Fi Assist is disabled. For more information, refer to Apple's About Wi-Fi Assist support article.
  6. For further support, contact Alarm.com CORE Technical Support.
