LiftMaster MyQ Control Panel (888LM/889LM) & Internet Gateway (828LM) Installation Guide
Required Items for Installation
- MyQ Control Panel (888LM or 889LM)
- MyQ Internet Gateway (828LM)
- Compatible LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Sears/Craftsman, or Raynor garage door opener (1998 or newer)
Garage Door Compatibility
Compatible with most LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Sears/Craftsman, Raynor, and Access openers made after 1998:
- Purple Learn Button with purple antenna wire – Compatible
- Orange/Red Learn Button with gray antenna wire – Most models compatible
- Not compatible with: Models 2500, 2500C, 1000SDR, 2000SDR (2500B and 2500BC are compatible)

Install MyQ Control Panel
- Disconnect power to the garage door opener.
- Remove the old wall control and note wire polarity (Red/White).
- Connect wires to the new MyQ Control Panel.
- Mount the panel to the wall and reconnect power.
- The yellow command LED and red learn LED will blink while charging (up to 5 minutes). Solid yellow means operational.
- Press the push bar to test.
Connect the MyQ Internet Gateway
- Connect the Ethernet cable to the router and gateway.
- Connect power to the gateway.
- When the green LED is solid, the gateway has internet connectivity.
- Write down the serial number for registration.
LED Guides
Internet Gateway LED
- Green blinking: Has IP address but no internet.
- Green solid: Connected to internet.
- Blue blinking: Communicating with MyQ device.
- Yellow solid: Learn Mode (3-minute timeout).
Control Panel LED
- Blinking: Powering up.
- Red solid: Learn Mode.
- Yellow solid: Operational.
Register Internet Gateway
Note: Gateway cannot be registered with Alarm.com if still linked to MyQ/LiftMaster. Remove from MyQ first.
- Log into the Alarm.com Customer Website
- Go to Settings → Manage Devices → Add Device.
- Select Garage Door → MyQ Control Panel.
- Click Register Gateway and enter the serial number.
- When the gateway enters Learn Mode (yellow LED), press the Learn button on the Control Panel twice.
- The Control Panel red LED turns on; the Gateway LED turns blue when paired.
- Return to the Garage page and click Check for New Devices.
Troubleshooting
- If the yellow command LED does not turn on, reverse wires at R and W terminals.
- If yellow/red LEDs blink slowly, the control panel is not compatible.
- If yellow/red LEDs blink quickly, the control panel is charging (wait 5 minutes).
- Learn Mode is active for 3 minutes; during this time, devices may be inoperable.
Factory Reset Internet Gateway
A factory reset may be required for troubleshooting. For instructions, see our guide: Contact True Protection Support.
Erase All Garage Door Devices
- Press and hold the Learn button on the Control Panel until the red LED goes out (6 seconds).
- Press and hold again until the red LED goes out.
- All devices are erased. Reprogram remotes as needed.
