Overview

The Smart Away feature pauses the existing Z-Wave thermostat schedule when the customer sets their security system to Arm Away or when all eligible Geo-Devices leave the Geo-Fence, and it resumes the schedule when Disarmed. This feature keeps the location's temperature regulated and provides a cost-saving opportunity for customers. The Smart Away feature uses either the Heat or Cool temperature when Away/Closed depending on which mode the system is in.

Example: The thermostat is currently in Cool mode. The customer configured their Away/Closed temperature setting to have a target temperature of 80 degrees. If they enable Smart Away and Arm Away their home or business on a 95-degree day, the A/C will turn on until the temperature lowers to 80 degrees. Once it has reached this target point, the A/C will turn off.

To use Smart Away thermostat schedules, verify the thermostat has the schedule enabled using the Customer Website or app, then follow the additional instructions below. The following image is how it will appear when the thermostat's schedule icon is clicked on the Customer Website:

To change Smart Away thermostat schedule settings from the Customer Website:

1. Log into the Customer Website. 
2. Click Automation.
3. Click Schedules.
4. Locate the thermostat schedule to be edited, then click the  icon. 
5. Click Smart Away. The following Smart Away setup window appears: 
   
   
    
6. Click the toggle switch to enable or disable the Smart Away thermostat schedule.
7. Click to select the checkboxes to apply the away situations to the Smart Away thermostat schedule. 
   • Click to select the System is set to Armed Away checkbox to enable the thermostat to use the Away temperature when the panel is armed away. If the panel has multiple partitions, the Smart Away thermostat schedule will be based on the arming status of partition 1.
   • Click to select the All of the Geo-Devices checkbox to enable the thermostat to use the Away temperature when the selected Geo-Devices exits the selected Geo-Fence.
     • If this option is selected, use the dropdown menus to specify which Geo-Devices and Geo-Fence will apply to the schedule. Selected Geo-Devices and Geo-Fence will have a checkmark displayed next to the name of the device. For more information about the Geo-Service rule, see Geo-Service thermostat override rule. 
       
       Important: If multiple Geo-Devices are selected, it will require the last of these devices to enter or exit the Geo-Fence before the rule is triggered.
        
8. Click Save Schedule.

Geo-Service thermostat override rule

Geo-Service Thermostat Override rules work with Thermostat Schedules to automatically control the temperature in homes or businesses based on user's phone location to help save on energy costs. Thermostat schedules resume as soon as the system is disarmed or when the selected Geo-Devices enter the Geo-Fence. Thermostat Override rules are set up on the Customer Website.

To create a Geo-Service thermostat override rule from the Customer Website: 

1. Log into the Customer Website. 
2. Click Settings.
3. Click Geo-Services.
4. Under Set up Geo-Features, click Smart Away Thermostat Override.
5. Click the toggle switch to enable the Smart Away thermostat override rule. 
6. Click to select All of the selected Geo-Devices.
7. Using the Geo-Devices dropdown menu, select which Geo-Devices will trigger the thermostat override.
   
   Important: If multiple Geo-Devices are selected, it will require the last of these devices to enter or exit the Geo-Fence before the rule is triggered.
    
8. Using the Geo-Fence dropdown menu, select which Geo-Fence to apply to the thermostat override rule. 
9.  Click Save Schedule.
