How to Set Up Thermostat Schedules in Alarm.com

Save money on energy while keeping your home or business comfortable with smart thermostat scheduling.

What are Thermostat Schedules?

Thermostat Schedules automatically adjust your heating and cooling based on the time of day, so you save energy while you’re away and stay comfortable while you’re home or asleep. Schedules can be set from the mobile app.

Key points:

  • Schedule changes can be set on the hour or half-hour (e.g., 8:00, 12:30, 15:30).
  • Minimum interval between setpoints is 1 hour.
  • Schedules are off by default but always available.

How to configure schedules on the Customer Website

  1. Log into the Customer Website.
  2. Click Automation → Schedules.
  3. Select the thermostat schedule you want to edit.
  4. Choose Heat or Cool to edit the desired mode.
  5. Adjust the Away/Home/Sleep (residential) or Closed/Open/Closing (commercial) target temperatures using the arrows.
  6. Select schedule type: 5 & 2-Day (weekdays/weekend) or 7-Day (daily control).
  7. Choose the number of intervals per day: 2 or 4.
  8. Click and drag schedule blocks to set the times and target temperatures.
  9. Use Copy Schedule to apply to other days or thermostats.
  10. Click Save.

How to configure schedules in the mobile app

  1. Log into the Customer app.
  2. Tap the thermostat card, then select Schedules.
  3. Edit the desired intervals by tapping the temperature setting icons.
  4. Choose from Away, Home, Sleep, or Custom and adjust temperatures as needed.
  5. Tap Apply to save changes.

Using Temperature Sensors with schedules

For example:

  • Bedroom sensor → Sleep preset
  • Family room sensor → Home preset

This ensures the thermostat keeps the most important rooms at the right temperature at the right time.

Tips & considerations

  • Adjacent intervals must be at least 1°F (0.5°C) different. Identical temperatures are treated as one large block.
  • If a manual change is made during an interval, the thermostat won’t resume the schedule until the next interval with a different temperature.
  • For Celsius users, remember that increments can be set in 0.5 degrees.

Example: If “Home” and “Away” are both set at 70°F from 8 AM–10 PM, the thermostat will ignore the 10 AM change because it sees the intervals as identical.
