How to Set Up the Alarm.com XWNB5602 Powerline Wi-Fi Extender

The Alarm.com XWNB5602, developed with Netgear, helps eliminate Wi-Fi dead spots by extending your home’s wireless network through existing electrical wiring. This solution is ideal for installing security cameras in areas where Wi-Fi coverage is weak or unavailable.

What’s Included in the XWNB5602 Kit

  • Powerline 500 PassThru Adapter (XAV5401)
  • Powerline 500 Wi-Fi Access Point (XWN5001)
  • Ethernet cables (x2)

LED Indicators Guide

  • Power LED: Solid Green = On; Blinking Green = Creating secure loop
  • Ethernet LED: Solid Green = Connected; Off = No Ethernet
  • Wireless LED: Solid Blue = Wi-Fi active; Blinking Blue = Connecting
  • Powerline LED: Green = Strong connection; Amber = Medium; Red = Weak

Setup Instructions

  1. Plug the PassThru Adapter into an outlet near your router.
  2. Connect it to the router with the included Ethernet cable.
  3. Plug the Wi-Fi Access Point into an outlet near your camera.
  4. Avoid power strips, surge protectors, or switch-controlled outlets for both devices.

Pairing the Powerline Devices

  1. Ensure both devices show solid green Power and Powerline LEDs.
  2. Press the Security button on one device for 2 seconds.
  3. Within 2 minutes, press the Security button on the second device.
  4. Wait for the Powerline LED to turn solid green (secure connection).

Adding a Security Camera

  1. Verify both devices are connected with solid green Powerline LEDs.
  2. Press the Security button on the Wi-Fi Access Point for 2 seconds.
  3. Press the WPS button on your Alarm.com camera within 2 minutes.
  4. When successful: Access Point LED = Solid Blue, Camera LED = Solid Green.

Notes & Troubleshooting

  • Designed for Alarm.com WPS-enabled cameras only.
  • If Powerline LED is Amber or Red, try a different wall outlet.
  • Do not use power strips, surge protectors, or high-draw appliances on the same outlet.

Safety Information

  • AC input rating: 100–125 VAC, 12A
  • AC output rating: 125 VAC, 11.8A max
  • Operating Temperature: 0–40°C
  • Only connect power cords (≤1m length, ≥0.75 mm² cross section) to the filtered outlet.
  • Do not plug appliances (heaters, dryers, ovens, fridges) into the PassThru adapter.
