ADC-VDB770 Power Module: Purpose, Wiring, and Best Practices
The power module is required for every ADC-VDB770 video doorbell installation. One module is included with each doorbell. It distributes power from the transformer, stabilizes the chime circuit, and helps ensure reliable operation—including Video Analytics performance.
Why the Power Module Is Required
- Allocates transformer power: Lets installers retrofit existing 10 VA doorbell transformers by directing available power to the ADC-VDB770—providing sufficient headroom for features like Video Analytics.
- Prevents chime humming: Blocks stray current through the chime when the button isn’t pressed, reducing or eliminating audible hum.
- Supports digital chimes: Ensures digital chimes ring correctly and consistently.
Wiring Overview
No polarity is required for either pair of leads. Follow these guidelines for a quick, reliable install.
White Wires (to Chime)
- Connect to the chime terminals in one of the following configurations:
- Front and Trans
- Rear and Trans
- Note (rare cases): Some digital chimes with integrated diodes may not ring after attaching the white leads even when power specs are met. Reverse the white-wire polarity at the chime to resolve in most cases.
Gray Wires (to Doorbell & Transformer)
- Connect the gray wires in-line to the ADC-VDB770 and the transformer.
- No polarity—either gray lead may go to the transformer or the doorbell lead.
Installation Tips
- Mount near the chime: Keep wiring tidy and strain-free; secure the module to prevent vibration.
- Verify transformer rating: Minimum 16 VAC / 10 VA recommended. If borderline or supporting multiple loads, consider upgrading the transformer.
- Eliminate surge strips: Do not place low-voltage wiring parallel to high-noise AC devices when possible.
- Test ring and live view: Confirm the indoor chime rings normally and the camera powers up fully.
Quick Troubleshooting
- Chime hums or rings inconsistently: Confirm the power module is installed and wired as above; reverse the white leads on digital chimes with integrated diodes.
- Doorbell reboots or Video Analytics unreliable: Check transformer output (target ≥16 VAC, 10 VA). Inspect wire connections for looseness or corrosion.
- No chime ring: Verify the module is in series with the chime circuit and that terminal screws are tightened; re-check gray-lead continuity to the doorbell and transformer.
