How to Install the ADC-VDB770 Doorbell Camera

Use this step-by-step guide to install your ADC-VDB770 Alarm.com Video Doorbell. From pre-installation checks to network setup and troubleshooting, this walkthrough ensures a smooth installation experience.

Pre-Installation Checklist

  • ADC-VDB770 and included accessories
  • Wire crimping tool
  • Wi-Fi broadband connection (Cable, DSL, or Fiber)
  • Computer, tablet, or smartphone (if router does not support WPS)
  • Transformer: minimum 16 VAC / 10 VA (check label on transformer)
  • A compatible chime (see chime compatibility support)

Important: The ADC-VDB770 requires a service package with Video Analytics and Doorbell Cameras enabled.

Step 1: Install the Power Module

  1. Turn off electricity at the transformer.
  2. Remove the chime cover and note existing wire connections.
  3. Loosen screws on the chime terminals (transformer and doorbell).
  4. Attach the white wires from the power module to these screw terminals.
  5. Crimp the set-aside chime wires to the gray wires of the power module using provided connectors.
  6. Affix the power module to the chime and replace the cover.

Note: The power module must always be used to prevent buzzing/humming and to ensure proper voltage delivery.

Step 2: Install the Video Doorbell

  1. Remove the existing doorbell and disconnect wires.
  2. Select a mounting bracket (angled brackets available for better viewing).
  3. Thread existing wires through the bracket and secure it to the wall.
  4. Thread wire extenders through the backplate and crimp them to the existing wires.
  5. Attach the backplate to the bracket, then snap the doorbell into place until secure.
  6. Restore power and wait for the LED to flash white after booting.

If LED is solid red after boot, hold the main button until it alternates green and red to reset.

Step 3: Connect to the Network

AP Mode (Recommended)

  1. Ensure the LED is blinking white (AP Mode).
  2. Connect your device to the SSID named ADC-VDB770 (XX:YY:ZZ).
  3. Open a browser and go to http://vdb770install or 192.168.1.1.
  4. Follow prompts to connect the camera to Wi-Fi.
  5. LED turns solid green when successfully connected.

WPS Mode (Alternate)

  1. With LED blinking white, hold button 30–35 seconds until it blinks blue.
  2. Activate WPS on your router.
  3. Wait for LED to turn solid green, confirming connection.

Step 4: Enroll the Video Doorbell

  1. Go to alarm.com/addcamera or use the MobileTech app / customer mobile app.
  2. Select the ADC-VDB770 from the video device list or enter the MAC address.
  3. Follow on-screen instructions to complete enrollment.

After enrollment, configure Video Analytics rules for smart motion detection.

Status Light Guide

  • Off: Power off
  • Solid Red: No local or internet connection
  • Blinking Red: Booting up
  • Solid Green: Connected to Alarm.com
  • Blinking Green: Local network connection only
  • Double-Bl. Blue: Unable to ring indoor chime
  • Blinking Blue: WPS mode
  • Blinking White: AP mode
  • Blinking Yellow: Power cycling
  • Alt. Red & Green: Factory reset

Troubleshooting

  • Connection issues: Power cycle (hold button 60–75s until LED blinks yellow).
  • Persistent issues: Factory reset (hold >75s until LED blinks red/green).
  • Reinstall bracket: Replace with angled mount if needed, keeping wires connected.
