Powering a SkyBell Doorbell Camera

The SkyBell Doorbell Camera (ADC-VDB101/102/105/106/105x/106x) can be powered using either an AC transformer with a chime or a plug-in DC power supply. Each setup has its own requirements and considerations.

Low Voltage Doorbell Transformer (AC)

Rating: 16–24 VAC, 10 VA (20 VA if two SkyBell units are on the same circuit).
If no chime is installed, a 10 Watt, 10 Ohm resistor is required.

Typical Location: Transformers are commonly found near a breaker box or mounted inside a wall. Tracing the wiring may be necessary to locate the transformer.

The doorbell chime is an important part of the circuit because it regulates the transformer’s power. If using a transformer with multiple outputs, ensure the correct leads are powering the SkyBell and chime.

Note: In regions using 220–240 VAC 50/60 Hz, Alarm.com has certified the Zamel TRM-12 transformer for certain SkyBell models.

Plug-in DC Power Supply

Rating: 15–24 VDC, 0.5–1 A.
For supplies rated above 0.5 A, a 10 Watt, 10 Ohm resistor must be used.

When powered via DC, the SkyBell Doorbell Camera cannot be connected to a chime. This option is useful for setups without an existing doorbell circuit.
