SkyBell Doorbell Camera is constantly buzzing or humming

The SkyBell Doorbell Camera does not make a buzzing sound, but the transformer can. If the transformer is buzzing, it is not able to produce enough power for the SkyBell Doorbell Camera.

To troubleshoot a buzzing door chime:

An incorrectly configured SkyBell Doorbell Camera or a transformer that is too old can cause a buzzing door chime. The SkyBell Doorbell Camera's configuration requirements change based on what type of door chime is on the circuit.

Verify the transformer meets the requirements for the SkyBell Doorbell Camera
AC

A SkyBell Doorbell Camera wired to an in-home mechanical or digital doorbell chime requires 16–24 VAC, 10 VA (20 VA if two doorbell cameras are on the circuit). Transformers without a doorbell chime need a 10 Watt, 10 Ohm resistor.

DC

A SkyBell Doorbell Camera powered using a DC power supply requires 15–24 VDC, 0.5–1 A. Power supplies with a current rating over 0.5 A need a 10 Watt, 10 Ohm resistor.

Verify the door chime type

For information about how to tell the difference between a mechanical and a digital chime, see What types of chimes are compatible with the SkyBell Doorbell Cameras?.

The user has a mechanical door chime

If the user has a mechanical chime but the SkyBell Doorbell Camera is configured for a digital chime on the Customer Website or app, this may cause the behavior.

The user has a digital door chime

If the user has an electronic/digital door chime, then the SkyBell Doorbell Camera must be configured for a digital chime, and a digital doorbell adapter is required. For more information about the digital doorbell adapter, see Digital doorbell adapter - Installation guide.

Verify the SkyBell Doorbell Camera chime configuration is correct
To verify the chime configuration using the Customer Website:
  1. Log into the Customer Website.
  2. Click Video
  3. Click Settings
  4. Using the Video Device dropdown menu, select the desired doorbell camera.
  5. Click Video Device Info
  6. Using the Chime Type dropdown menu, select Digital or Mechanical based on the type of chime being used.
  7. Click Save.
  8. Wait 2 minutes then test the doorbell camera. If the user has a mechanical chime, press the doorbell camera button to confirm that the two plungers in the chime hit their plates normally and that the buzzing has stopped.
To verify the chime configuration using the Customer app:
  1. Log into the Customer app.
  2. Tap Menu
  3. Tap Doorbell Camera.
  4. Tap Settings.
  5. Tap to select the desired doorbell (if there are more than one installed).
  6. Tap the Digital Door Chime toggle switch to enable it for a digital door chime or disable it for a mechanical door chime.
  7. Tap Save.
  8. Wait 2 minutes then test the doorbell camera. If the user has a mechanical chime, press the doorbell camera button to confirm that the two plungers in the chime hit their plates normally and that the buzzing has stopped.
Verify the door chime age

Occasionally, some older door chimes do not regulate the power current to the SkyBell Doorbell Camera properly, causing a buzzing or humming noise. If the transformer meets the requirements and the door chime settings are correct, then replace the chime itself to resolve the behavior.

Note: If a mechanical door chime is replaced with a digital door chime, make sure to also get the SkyBell Doorbell Camera digital doorbell adapter.
