SkyBell Doorbell Camera: Adjusting Motion Sensitivity
SkyBell Doorbell Cameras use both passive infrared (PIR) and camera-based sensor triggers to detect activity and record clips. Once triggered, the motion sensor takes up to 20 seconds to reset before detecting again.
The motion detection range is approximately 8 feet at the highest sensitivity level, with shorter ranges at lower settings. Adjusting sensitivity helps balance accurate detection with reducing unwanted triggers.
Understanding Sensitivity Settings
- High sensitivity → more frequent motion-triggered recordings.
- Low sensitivity → fewer detection events and recordings.
How Temperature Affects Detection
Because SkyBell cameras use infrared motion sensors, air temperature impacts motion detection:
- Warm months: fewer triggered clips (lower temperature difference between objects and air).
- Cold months: more frequent triggers (greater contrast between objects and air).
Tip: Adjust sensitivity seasonally, or angle the camera away from busy areas to avoid unnecessary recordings.

FAQs
What’s the maximum detection range?
Up to 8 feet at the highest sensitivity level.
Why does my camera record less in summer?
High ambient temperatures reduce the contrast that PIR sensors detect, lowering sensitivity.
Can I reduce false triggers?
Yes. Lower sensitivity or angle the camera away from high-traffic areas like sidewalks or streets.
